Dear friends,
It seems that with the inspiration of Platonism an entire world of imagery has been sparked up, and I’m delighted to be living in this crystalline universe. Here are some images you might enjoy:
Watchwords from the ancients can guide daily life. Along with reading and studying Plato and later Platonists, the Delphic Maxims are good tools for contemplation. Hiding beyond, behind, or around their beneficial ethical aspects are insights and other clues to deepen awareness and understanding. I’m playing with AI images as I reflect on the words, and interspersing them in this issue. There’s lots more to come. Michael Griffin shared a list of 147 of these, and I’ll be working through them in the next little while.
The Wonderful Horse
Isn’t this the most amazing horse outfit? The horse herself is wonderful enough, but dressed up like this, she is fully splendid. A reminder of an ideal remarkably magical steed, like the great horse Buraq, the heavenly equine being who carried the prophet Muhammad on his Night Journey to the Seventh Heaven.
The Elements
This gallery is an illustration of the geometrical atoms of the elements of Earth, Water, Fire and Air - envisioned as made up of triangles as described in Plato’s Timaeus. - just tap to see the full image.
Thank You
Thanks very much to A.E. Beverley who recommended Personal Papers, saying it was “Creativity, inspiration and philosophy from a beautiful soul.” I send this sentiment right back to her, doubled, especially as I am in awe of her fearless poetry. Check out Ready to be whatever and you’ll see what I mean.
Also welcomed into my inbox is the new Substack from Ahava Shira, What The Day Holds. Insights on self-tending while being a caregiver, exquisitely illustrated with images from her own movement practice.
Tuning in toward a Pythagorean universe can be dazzlingly fun. I’ll end with an extra-fancy fun meme for you, even if you’ve probably seen it making the rounds.
Now we go into the Autumn Equinox. Last night I saw a sly smile of a moon crescent, knowing more about what is to come than I do. I’m welcoming the opening into our next season with gratitude. What are you looking forward to this fall?
Thanks for reading, commenting, sharing and just being here. Till next week!
