Present
Amuse-bouche #5
The fifth in my incidental series of short bite-sized bits to take us from Solstice to Christmas and into the New Year.
Attending to the present
This time of year is quiet. We are taking time to stay inside, together within ourselves.
Reading, listening to music, walking the dog, watching new or old favourite movies and shows, seeing the snow fall or the wind blow, remembering the ways of the year that is passing, and in this time between, taking a much-needed pause. Lighting a new fire, every day.
As I refresh the screen, or put down the book I’m reading, am I ready to begin again? Not quite yet. This week to come is the time to see and savour what has passed, so I relax into a shift in perspective. I watch from a distance, with a gentle form of attention and quiet listening. Not too hard-focused either, just attending.
Mornings at school the teacher would call our names, for attendance. When she said, “Carol?” I’d say, “Here.” Today, that is enough.
A perfect time to watch some Slow TV
I was looking for a Norwegian Train Ride to share with you, and came across this lovely Sami Reindeer journey. Takes place on one day, edited down to under two hours.
Scent for the season
In winter, I’m attracted to the deeper, darker scents in perfumes that hold more body. They carry a heavier molecule of their essence, and the scent stays for a longer time. Something from warmer places helps expand the heart.
